1974 PORSCHE 911S for sale

Price: POA
AUCTION - 6th - 15th MAY

Chicane Auctions is proud to present this beautifully preserved and highly desirable 1974 Porsche 911 S Coupe, an Australian-delivered, matching-numbers example offered with a complete service history from new and an outstanding record of care spanning five decades.

MODEL OVERVIEW
The 1974 Porsche 911 S is a standout from the early G-series era, blending classic long-hood charm with mechanical updates.

At its heart is a free-revving 2.7-litre air-cooled flat-six engine, derived from the legendary 1973 Carrera RS. In S specification, it produced 175 horsepower (130 kW) and 235 Nm of torque, channeled through a crisp-shifting 5-speed manual gearbox or the optional Type 925 Sportomatic transmission.

With a kerb weight just over 1,070kg, the 911 S could sprint from 0100 km/h in around 6.5 secondsbrisk for its timeand topped out near 225 km/h.

Fitted with distinctive chrome trim, 15-inch cast aluminium ATS wheels and elegant body shape, the '74 911 S strikes a perfect balance of classic style and usability.

The handling remained sharp thanks to its low weight, torsion bar suspension and near 40:60 weight distribution.

Legendary Porsche ventilated disc brakes at all four corners for always dependable stopping power.

Its the kind of Porsche that rewards spirited driving, turns heads, and delivers a visceral connection thats made it a cult favorite among purists light, responsive, and beautifully simple.

DRIVELINE
This 911 S retains its original matching-numbers 2.7-litre flat-six engine, now tastefully upgraded with triple-throat Weber 40 IDA carburettorsa popular period-correct performance modification inspired by the legendary Carrera RS.

The engine has been professionally rebuilt and delivers strong, responsive power. A stainless steel exhaust system adds a purposeful tone and complements the upgrades beautifully.

Power is delivered through the standard Type 915 five-speed manual gearbox, known for its direct mechanical feel. This is a well-balanced, driver-focused 911 that remains true to its roots while delivering enhanced performance.

EXTERIOR
Presented in its factory Code 117 Light Yellow, this 911 S has an honest, appealing patina that reflects decades of care rather than restoration.

The body presents straight and true, with factory-correct chrome window trims, headlamp rings, and exterior mirrors, as fitted to the 911 S variant. Period-correct 15-inch cast aluminium ATS wheels remain fitted, adding further distinction and originality to the cars visual appeal.

INTERIOR
The interior remains mostly faithful to factory specification, with original finishes in remarkably well-preserved condition. The classic five-gauge Porsche dashboard layout, deep bolstered seats and Nardi steering wheel combine to create a cockpit built for driving.

Subtle period-correct details throughout reaffirm this cars authenticity. Its an inviting space that rewards both weekend use and spirited drives alike.

SUMMARY
Today, the 1974 Porsche 911 S occupies a unique place in the 911 timeline. It bridges the gap between the raw, pre-impact-bumper cars of the late 1960s and the more refined but heavier SC and Carrera 3.2 models of the 1980s.

It still feels light, responsive, and mechanicaleverything that makes a vintage 911 specialyet benefits from improved safety, usability, and drivability.

Its direct link to the Carrera RS, low production numbers (especially for right-hand drive and Australian delivery), and enduring classic looks make it an increasingly appealing proposition for both driving enthusiasts and savvy collectors.

Offered with a fully documented service history from new, this example benefits from long-term ownership and careful stewardship throughout its life.

A classic air-cooled 911 that is more fun driving at 80 kph, than a modern version at 200 kph.
