SUMMARY:
Finished in striking Track Red with a black GT-style interior, this fully restored 1971 Ford Falcon XY GT Replica captures the unmistakable appearance of one of Australias most celebrated muscle cars. Combining high-quality body and paintwork with rebuilt Cleveland 351 V8 power, a 4 speed automatic transmission and upgraded comfort features, this example brings together classic GT presentation and a specification suited to enjoyable performance cruising.
The exterior carries the familiar XY GT styling cues, including black bonnet treatment, a shaker bonnet scoop, bonnet pins, driving lights and black side stripes with 351 GT identification. Bright chrome bumpers and exterior trim complement the Track Red paintwork, while five-slot steel wheels with hubcaps and redline tyres complete the period-inspired appearance. The result is a beautifully presented replica with the visual presence that makes the XY shape so enduringly popular.
Power comes from a rebuilt 351ci Cleveland V8, described by the vendor as a warm street engine. The replacement engine block carries casting date code 3L28, identifying 28 November 1973, with its JG63 engine-number prefix indicating Fairlane origins. Presented in a neatly detailed engine bay beneath the GT-style shaker assembly, the Cleveland maintains a largely period-style appearance while providing the V8 character central to this build.
Paired with the engine is a Ford AOD four-speed automatic transmission, fitted with an external transmission cooler, sending power through a nine-inch limited-slip differential with 3.55:1 gearing. This combination is a particularly useful upgrade for a classic V8, retaining responsive gearing while adding an overdrive fourth gear for more relaxed highway cruising.
With the fitted 70R14 tyres, the AODs standard overdrive ratio provides a calculated engine speed of approximately 1,900rpm at 100km/h. For comparison, the same combination with a Toploader manual or a C4 Automatic would produce approximately 2,950 rpm. These are calculated figures and not road-tested readings, but they illustrate the cruising benefit of the overdrive transmission fitted, while keeping quick acceleration.
Inside, the restored black GT-style cabin continues the period GT presentation throughout and presented in high-quality condition. The interiors style is complemented with modern air conditioning discreetly incorporated through under-dash vents to add comfort in warmer weather.
An XF power steering conversion further complements the upgraded automatic transmission and air conditioning, making ease of use an important part of the cars specification. These additions give the build a clear drivers car focus while preserving the familiar appearance of an awesome XY GT Falcon.
Presented with high-quality body and paintwork, a perfectly finished cabin and a thoughtfully upgraded driveline, this 1971 Ford Falcon XY GT Replica offers an appealing combination of classic muscle-car style, performance and cruising comfort.
Its Track Red finish, rebuilt 351 V8, nine-inch LSD, overdrive automatic, power steering and air conditioning make it an attractive opportunity for an enthusiast seeking the iconic XY GT look in a fully restored car built to be driven and enjoyed.
High quality body, paintwork, interior and mechanical package. A Turn Key example. Inspection will not disappoint.
